MBA Students Reaching Out to Those Accepted

BYU MBA students are reaching out to those people who have been accepted in the MBA class of 2013. The goal is to start the preparation early to help students be better prepared for school, the internship search, and life in Utah.

Hi
I have received an admit from BYU MBA. I am an Indian citizen and I concerned about the number of companies recruiting on campus which hire international students as well (from marketing specialisation).
Actually being an international student I am much concerned about the chances of getting a job in US post the MBA. I can work there only if the organisation sponsors my H1B Visa. So any updates on the job scenario for international students would be highly appreciated.

Vandita -

There are many companies that come to BYU specifically looking for international students or students with a foreign language. About 80% of BYU MBAs speak another language besides English so companies see it as a great place to find talent to help grow the companies internationally.

Some a few of the companies taking internationals this year have been Cummins, Celanes, Amazon, and Adobe.

The VP of Marketing for Adobe at the Utah office, which is abotu 10 minutes from the BYU campus, is from India. Really great guy. Super smart.

Vandita,

I'm an international student from Italy at BYU. I had offers from Apple, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Adobe. I chose Adobe for personal reasons.
They all sponsor on H1B. I had flybacks with Cummins and interviews with Amazon when I accepted my offer. I can't say it's always easy for everyone but it's definitely possible. It depends on your skills, resume, ability to network and so forth.
i think Adobe's CEO is indian as well..

Congrats for your acceptance! I loved my BYU experience!

Hi Vandita,

I an a first year Chinese student. We have many opportunities as international students, for internship and full time job. I am going to work for Cummins this summer. We have an Indian student, Andy, who is going to work for American Express in the summer.

Companies like PWC & Intel also recruit international students for full time.

Please feel free to let me know if you need more details.

Good luck!

Vandita,

Currently it's not very easy to find job offers that sponsor HB1 visas. Companies who hire internationals are more likely to hire F1 and J1 to intern in the Summer and then offer them a full-time position in their home countries, because these companies usually have operations abroad. Besides those already mentioned in the blog, I can list Motorola, HP, Caterpillar and JnJ. However, if you have a strong background and experience, you may find HB1 sponsor indeed.

Hi Vandita,
I am an international student (from the UK) on an F-1 visa currently so will require a H1-B post graduation. There are some barriers as an international student but we provide a lot of peer support.

I have a marketing focus as well, and was able to line up a good internship with Amazon in Product Management. You will find that if a company doesn't sponsor H1-B's they typically won't offer internships either. If you are interested in a smaller company there are some good immigration attorneys locally who can help take you and them through the process.

There are lists of sponsoring organizations available like my take-away is if you have a shortlist of 5-10 companies you are interested in, who sponsor, and focus on them you should be alright (assuming you have a strong resume etc.).

Please feel free to contact me ben@benmeadowcroft.com with any other questions and I can put you in touch with other international students who can share there experiences with you.
